women are flowers......

flower 032, originally uploaded by saisai.

Yesterday, I received this beautiful flower basket from my "bosses" for the secretary's day. It was filled with purple iris, pink mini carnation, red roses, lavender freesia, pink daisies, and this gorgeous pink lily. It reminds me of a song, it's called "女人花“(Women Flower) I translated the chinese version lyric into english, but it doesn't really do its justice, hopefully you will see what it's trying to convey...

我有花一朵

I have a flower

种在我心中

planted in my heart

含苞待放意幽幽

budding quietly and peacefully

朝朝与暮暮

every day and every night

我切切地等候

I am waiting

有心的人来入梦

waiting for someone to enter my dream

女人花 摇曳在红尘中

women flower dancing in the sand

女人花 随风轻轻摆动

women flower beckoning in the wind

只盼望 有一双温暖手

she is longing for a pair of warm hands

能抚慰 我内心的寂寞

that could soothe her deep loneliness

我有花一朵

I have a flower

花香满枝头

grow into her full bloom

谁来真心寻芳踪

but who is on his way to find her

花开不多时啊堪折直须折

oh the fleeting blossoms

女人如花花似梦

they are like women, and women are like dreams

我有花一朵

I have a flower

长在我心中

it's growing in my heart

真情真爱无人懂

with this true love that nobody understands

遍地的野草已占满了山坡

weeds are already speading all over

孤芳自赏最心痛

sadly, she is her own admirer

女人花 摇曳在红尘中

women flower dancing in the sand

女人花 随风轻轻摆动

women flower beckoning in the wind

只盼望 有一双温柔手能抚慰 我内心的寂寞

she is long for a pair of warm hands

that could soothe her deep loneliness

女人花 摇曳在红尘中

women flower dancing in the sand

女人花 随风轻轻摆动

women flower beckoning in the wind

若是你 闻过了花香浓

if you smelled the rich fragrance

别问我 花儿是为谁红

don't ask it is for whom she turns red

爱过知情重

you never know how deep love is until you loved

醉过知酒浓

you never know how luscious the wine is until you taste it

花开花谢 终是空

flowers bloom, but soon will wither and disappear

缘份不停留

love is waiting for nobody

像春风来又走

like the spring breezes they come and go

女人如花花似梦

so women are like flowers

and flowers are like dreams

Shall We Dance

Shall We Dance is this really sweet, relaxing, and romantic comedy. It is about this middle-aged man, with stable career, loving wife and smart children, he seems to have it all. but everyday, when he is on his way home from work, riding on the El Train, he is just, not happy, there is something missing, something that would break the mundane routine, something to sparkle up his life, and something to make him feel alive again, and to him, that something is to dance. It is too easy to be caught in the daily grind of just getting by, people forget we only have this much time alive, being alive means experiencing life, enjoying your life, and sharing your life with people around you. So, don't be so hard on yourself, life is like riding on a fast train, things passes by so quickly before we know it, if along the way you find a really beautiful scenery, get off the train and enjoy it, you never know what it's gonna be like unless you try it.

So, I am taking dance class this summer. Well, it's not like this movie inspired me or sth., actually, I registered for this class before watching the movie. It is a little intimidating, cuz I am not much of a dancer, never dance before, as a matter of fact, I am a big klutz, have absolutely no flexibility. but, I am willing to try it out, because I might be ending up very good at it, you never know unless you try it, right? it's gonna be exciting, experiencing new things, meeting new people, learning new moves. So, stay tuned!

quote from the movie

Your life will not go unnoticed, because I will notice it,
Your life will not go unwitnessed, because I will be your witness.

One heck of a woman

For the last few days, my mom and I were on this korean drama marathon, it runs for 45-plus episodes, and it made us cry almost every episode. Yeah, it is that good, says someone who used to loathe korean drama. It was based on a true story about this legendary figure in Korean history, Dae Jang Geum, who was the first woman that became the King's personal physician in the men-dominated 1400s. Jang Geum lost her Mom when she was very little, in order to fullfill her mom's death wish, she enrolled in the royal kitchen as a young apprentice. In the treacherous water of the Royal Palace, Jang Geum's diligence and tenacity soon earned her recognition but also caused jealousy and resentment. To make a long story short, after a series of hardships, she finally stepped up as the first female personal doctor for the king, hense her honorable title "Dae Jang Geum" (Dae means great). Well, the drama might stretch it a little, but this tenaciousness, hardworking spirit, and braveness almost become the the identity of Korean women.

You Raise Me Up

When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary;
When troubles come and my heart burdened be;
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.

There is no life - no life without its hunger;
Each restless heart beats so imperfectly;
But when you come and I am filled with wonder,
Sometimes, I think I glimpse eternity.

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up: To more than I can be.

Happy Birthday, Leonardo Da Vinci

553 years ago today, a genius was born. I used to know so little about this guy until I read the bestselling book Da Vinci Code. With all those hidden messages in his paintings, ingenious inventions scribbled in his notebook, and proofs of mathematical wonders like Fibonacci Sequence, I bet he is still smiling smugly in his grave, waiting for someone someday would match his brilliance.

Quest China

The first Chinese Reality TV Show "Quest China" is still accetping contestants right now til the end of April. They quest USA last summer, I just catched a snippet of it, the contestants were divided into 4 teams, main land chinese, hongkonese, taiwanese, and American-born-Chinese. Personally, I am not a big fan of the idea, to think that Chinese people are already deeply divided. On the other hand, if you want a free trip to China and a possibility to get famous on TV, send in those applications asap!

Should we forgive? should we forget?

Here is a comment responding to the news that more than 400,000 people (mostly Chinese) around the world have signed online petitions to oppose Japan's bid for a permanent seat on the U.N. Security Council:

Japan has no qualification for permanent seat
(Mar 29 2005 - 19:54)

Japan has no qualification to be a permanent member of the UN Security
Council in all respects, and Japan's behavior to make desperate efforts for
Security Council membership is impudent and imprudent.

This issue can not be solved by money or backing of big countries but by the recognition of the international community.

It has no pluck to take action responsible for world security and international order. If Japan, a servant following the United States, becomes a permanent member of the UNSC, it will only result in adding one vote to the US in harassing world security and international order.

As Japan is a dangerous warlike state which is seeking overseas aggression going against the trend of peace, its attainment of the UNSC permanent membership will give the Japanese militarists the wing of revanche for aggression.It is an insult to
the international community to offer a permanent membership to Japan which is
distrusted by its surrounding countries because it has not yet redressed its past blood-stained aggressive crimes.

Japan's bid to become a UNSC permanent member was to be a political power as well as a hegemony in Asia and the world. It is contrary to the basic mission of the UN and it will be troublesome to the world people desirous of peace.When the United Nations marks the 60th anniversary of its establishment and the end of World War II, Japan should take this year as a good opportunity to redress its past crimes, remove the stigma of an 'enemy state' and gain trust from the international community. And it should discard the harmful sense of national superiority and chauvinism and candidly join hands with Asian countries with a clear understanding that it is a member nation of Asia.Till 27 Mar, more than 10 Million people around the world have signed online petitions to oppose Japan's bid for a permanent seat on the U.N. Security Council.

The antagonism toward Japan among the Chinese continues to grow as Japanese government rewrite their school textbooks trying to whitewash the atrocities they did on the Chinese people during WWII. Some people argued that "it's been more than 50 years, why can't you guys get along already?" well, I'll give you the reason, it's not that hard to understand, time will not magically heal a wound if it is not attended upon, and what Japan is doing right now is more like twisting knife in the old wound again and again, then rubbing salt into it afterwards. Tens of thousands of innocent Chinese were killed (including pregnant women and infants) in every henous way you could imagine, familes were destroyed, women were abused and raped, healthy people were experimented with viruses... ... Yet, this part of history was so understated, people around the world have so little knowledge of what really happened. If Japanese government continues to be so adamant about their superiority, refuses to give an apology we deserve, then why should we forget? why should we forgive?

The happiest place on earth...

Disneyland was recruiting on campus today, and the reps were giving out those applications with the first page titled as "Guidelines at a Glance."one of those guidelines is "no visible piercing, tattoo, hair must be natural looking, only one ring on each hand is permitted, earings maybe clip-on or pierced and must be worn on the bottom of the earlobe (and it went on about the size standard of earings), no heavy make-up, nail lengh may not exceed 1/4" from the fingertip.........." well, no wonder their presentation today had a really low turnout, look around the campus, it's really hard to find a person that could meet those criteria, so why bother? I've heard about Disney's reputation about being strict on their employees before, so I am not surprised at all. But wait a minute, if it was, as the recruiter said on the presentation, those guidelines are set to accommodate the younger crowd, what about the new hit shows ABC recently put on to attract more eyeballs, "Desperate Housewife," "Jake in Progress," ... not to mention other so called "family-friendly shows" that are also putting in some "spice" to boost up their rating. Can we really create a fairy tale for our kids to live in in today's world? if yes, for how long?

Joke of the day

After three days of torture, Linda finally gave birth to a healthy boy. Having him in her arms, she was ecstatic, "Look at him, honey, he is the cutest boy on earth."
Her husband wasn't that excited, "well, he looks nothing like me."
Linda burst into tears,"I know, thank you, God!"

that's what I am here for...

in tonite's episode of Joan of Arcadia, Adam admitted to Joan that he cheated on her, he thought that he and Bonnie had was just sex. Joan reacted like every other girl, she said "it is over!" on the way home, Joan met God again on the bus... ... Joan asked God: what did I do to deserve this? maybe there is no love, maybe you don't exist either, we are all animals that take whatever we want to satisfy our hunger. God put arm around her: Joan, what you and Adam had is beautiful, every bit of it is as real as the pain you are feeling right now, cruelty is part of living, but you need to learn to have faith, to look for the goodness in life, that's what I am here for, and I will always be here for you...
