静夜思

床前明月光,疑是地上霜,

举头望明月,低头思故乡。

Thoughts in the Silent Night

Moonlight spraying by my bed
I took it for frost on the ground!
I Lift up my head and take in the full moon
then I look down and dream of my motherland.

THERE ARE PLACES I REMEMBER---Beatles

There are places I remember all my life,
Though some have changed
Some forever, not for better
Some have gone and some remain.
All these places have their moments
Of lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I loved them all.
And with all these friends and lovers
There is no one that compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
And I know I will never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know'll often stop and think about them.
In my life I loved you more.
And I know I will never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know'll often stop and think about them.
In my life I loved you moreIn my life I loved you more
.
When I was young
I'd listen to the radio
Waitin' for my favorite songs
When they played I'd sing along
It made me smile.
Those were such happy times

And not so long ago
How I wondered where they'd gone
But they're back again
Just like a long lost friend
All the songs I loved so well.
Every Sha-la-la-la

Every Wo-o-wo-o
Still shines
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling
That they're startin' to sing's
So fine.
When they get to the part

Where he's breakin' her heart
It can really make me cry
Just like before
It's yesterday once more.
Lookin' back on how it was In years gone by

And the good times that I had
Makes today seem rather sad
So much has changed.
It was songs of love that
I would sing to then
And I'd memorize each word
Those old melodies
Still sound so good to me
As they melt the years away.
Every Sha-la-la-la

Every Wo-o-wo-o
Still shines
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling
That they're startin' to sing's
So fine.
All my best memories

Come back clearly to me
Some can even make me cry.
Just like before

It's yesterday once more.

coffee and society

Several elite universities are offering courses studying the effect coffee has on humanity and our society, some professors even move their classroom to their local starbuck cafe, discussing philosophy, politic, art, and everyday life with the students while sipping on their steaming hot mocha latte. it reminds me a lot of Socrates, who challenged and enlightened young people on local Athenian streets. But take a look at our local starbuck, tables are scattered out, coffee drinkers, either come with group or solo, pretty much only engage in their own business, it would be odd to see some stranger approaching you for some ramdom chat, people's sense of privacy is like an invisible wall building up between us. Even though our physical bodies are within close proximity, our mind are millions of light years apart. Especially in the suburb of southern California, where people live within their own confines of house, car, and office. so, I have this idea, when someday I get all rich and free, I will open up a little coffee shop of my own, and the decor will be much more chatter-friendly, instead of spreading individual tables around, I will set up a big circle bar area with counter stools, it will be a snug and homey space, where people sit and rub elbows with strangers on the same table. I will invite local scholars, artists, and business people to hold seminars, discussions, or workshops in my shop, I will dispense thoughtful little gifts to my customers on the holidays, and I will organize small book clubs to engage young people in reading and writing......a place that will bring the community together, a place filled with laughter and peace, a place where people would really let their guard down, reach out, and see each other as human beings who are also made with blood and flesh.

wormhole

this is how the aliens get to earth? if we travel faster than light, we can curve the space time like a taco?

we are not alone!

Peter Jennings' latenite reporting about UFO, aliens, and wormhole stuns me. recall that summer morning on the beach, a weird old man who alleged himself a freelance film coordinator for the film spider man II struck a conversation with me out of blue, I don't remember much of what he said, but I do remember he talked about UFOs, he said that America's biggest enemy right now is not communism, nor terrorism, but them out there, he pointed to the blue sky, the outer world, the extraterrestrial place we don't know much of... that's spooky!

talking about narcissism, just figure out a way to google myself out, guess what, if you type "阴天 overcast" on the search bar, my weblog will pop right up, and it's the first.
finally got a break from the rain today, but the cloudy sky still looks ominous, and the forecast says there are more rain to come, so right now, I just enjoy the precious sunshine peeking out of the clouds.
yup, a round of encore of the sex and city ladies, and of course, their georgous, glamorous, and posh yet somehow funky, weird, and flamboyant outfits. isn't SJP the cutiest gal ever?

I am plotting yet another class-ditching tonite, don't feel like going to a physics class on a such stormy day. just finish reading an article about China's economy, now Americans have to recognize the rise of China and its robust developing strenghth. However, behind all those astronomical figures of GDP, revenue of export, foreign currency reserve funds and bonds, are those regular working class chinese families who make one fourth of what Americans make on a similar job, are those impoverished rural areas where childrens can't afford education, are those middle-aged chinese who get laid-off and struggled in a job market filled with millions of young graduates each year......underneath all the glory, pride, admiration and recognition from the world, China rises as a whole nation, but what's really going on in every ordinary chinese household?

阴天 overcast
在不开灯的房间 sitting in the room without lights on
当所有思绪都一点一点沉淀 when all the dusty recesses of my mind settled down
爱情究竟是精神鸦片 I wonder: is love some kind of mental opium
还是世纪末的无聊消遣 or just a boring pastime at the end of the century
香烟 cigarettes
氲成一滩光圈 smoke rings
和他的照片就摆在手边 and his pictures beside my hands
傻傻两个人 two people are laughing so naively
笑的多甜 yet so sweet
开始总是分分钟都妙不可言 at the beginning, every minute was so heavenly
谁都以为热情它永不会减 we both believed that the passion would never fade
除了激情褪去後的 except for the tiny bit of tiresomness
那一点点倦 after those crazy nights
也许像谁说过的贪得无厌 perhaps, like somebody said, we were overindulgent
活该应了谁说过的不知检点 or it serve us right to be called unabashed
总之那几年 after all, back in those days
感性蠃了理性那一面 we both gave up to irrationality
阴天 overcast
在不开灯的房间 sitting in the room without lights on
当所有思绪都一点一点沉淀 when all the dusty recesses of my mind settled down
爱恨情欲里的疑点盲点 looking back, suddenly, it has never been this clear to me
呼之欲出那麽明显 all the blind spots and doubts about love
女孩通通让到一边 all you girls out there, step aside
这歌里的细微末节就算都体验 cuz even if you understand every word of this song
若想真明白 but to fully comprehend
真要好几年 it might still take a few more years
回想那一天喧闹的喜宴 recall that day, the noisy wedding reception
耳边响起的究竟是序曲或完结篇 is the wedding march my overture or finale soundtrack
感情不就是你情我愿 relationship is between consenting adults
最好爱恨扯平两不相欠 if it didn't work out, get even so nobody owes anything
感情说穿了一人挣脱的一人去捡 to tell the truth, love is like something that
somebody struggled to get rid of, and somebody else come and pick it up
男人大可不必百口莫辩 so, guys don't need to explain
女人实在无须楚楚可怜 ladies, no need to play victims
总之那几年 forget about those years
你们两个没有缘 you two are just not meant for each other
...... .......

another storm hit southern cal again, rain pouring down in torrents, couped up at home, nothing is good on TV, nothing much online either, just a random entry... standing by the window, rain cascading down at the other side of the glass, blurred the scene outside, it's getting dark, everything is so quiet, except for the sound of rain pounding on the roof, at that moment, as if everything is standing still......alas, time will never stop, every fleeting moment goes by so quickly like the little rain drop dripping down the shingle, and it is gone forever.....

WE ONLY LIVE ONCE!

Grandma used to quote this poem alot "人生有酒须当醉,一滴何曾到九泉(if you are alive, drink as much as you want, because once you are dead, not even a drop of wine can you get any more)" how true! whenever I think of this verse, a sense of irony and guilt come over me.

loneliness is infectious, people avoid having eye contacts with lonely eyes, especially on a romantic day like this, rose petal, heart-shaped chocolate, bubbling champaign, and the sappy music. leave those poor single people alone, I say, turn off the TV filled with Vday related crap, I ask, and tonite, I am not lonely just becuz I am alone.
once the devil had some sort of bazaar to sell his tools of destruction. demons from all around civilisation arrived and they were browsing around when they saw a small well-weathered tool that looks old and rusty but bore the highest price among all the items for sale. they asked him why would such an old and rusty thing be worth the most? the devil replied and said, ''with this little thing, i have destroyed and wrecked the spirits of billions, which is why it is the most expensive.''

the tool was discouragement.

Who is God?

primetime lastnight aired the story of "john of God," the acclaimed spiritual healer like jesus, and it make me wonder: does god exist? people are seeking the answer everyday. with today's technology and scientific information, there are still so many things science can't even get their arms around. just how credible are those spiritual healers? before we set out to explore the world, how much do we know about our own body and soul? ... ...
